The 5 Days safari takes you to explore Kibale Forest, the primates capital of Africa, Queen Elizabeth National park, Uganda’s second largest park and Volcanoes National park in Rwanda. Spreading over 788 square kilometers, Kibale Forest is home to the highest population of chimpanzees which make it a premier destination to see chimpanzees. Batooro and Bakiga are the common tribes living around this rain forest Kibale Forest. Besides chimpanzees, Kibale Forest is also home to 12 primates which include Red tailed monkeys, Blue colobus monkeys, Vervet monkeys, Baboons, Olive Baboons, L’Hoest Monkeys, Grey Cheeked Mangabeys, Uganda Red Colobus, Demidoff Galago, Patas Monkeys, Pottos, Black and White Colobus monkeys. The park is also an Important Birding area sheltering over 370 bird species. Expect to see notable birds such as African Pied Wagtail, Great blue turaco, Slender billed weaver, Tropical boubou, Grey parrot, African Pitta, Masked apalis, Ruwenzori apalis, Western nicator, Crowned eagle and Afep pigeon among other birds.  Butterfly watching, bigodi wetland and community tours are other things to do in Kibale Forest National Park. The 5 Days safari will also take you to Queen Elizabeth National Park for game viewing and boat cruise experience. You will see animals such as elephants, lions, buffalos, Leopards , Hyenas, Uganda Kobs, Waterbucks, Warthogs, Giant forest hog and Topis among others.  The ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth is home to the rare tree climbing lions which are not seen anywhere else in Uganda.  A boat cruise at Kazinga channel offers you best views of various birds and wild water animals on the river banks.

Trip Highlights

You will then cross to Kigali  headed to Volcanoes National Park located in north western Rwanda. The bamboo forest park  is a centre for mountain gorilla trekking  with over 350 mountain gorillas sheltered there. 10 gorilla families namely Hirwa, Amahoro, Sabyinyo, Kwitonda, Agashya, Karisimbi, Titus, Pablo, Susa A and Umubano gorilla family. You will require a permit at $1500 allowing you to spend an hour with the endangered primates in their natural habitats. The park also shelters five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga Conservation Area (Bisoke, Karisimbi, Gahinga, Sabyinyo and Mufumbiro). Volcano hiking is therefore another interesting activity  to do in VNP.  For birders, Volcanoes National Park is home to over 180 bird species some of which are rarely found anywhere else. Golden monkeys, Musanze caves, Bulera & Buhondo twin lakes, Dian Fossey graveyard and cultural tours to the Gorillas Guardian Village are also a not miss on your Rwanda safari to VNP. Day 1

Pick up in Kigali – Kibale Forest national park

Pick up from Kigali by our company tour guide and transfer to Kibale national park. The drive takes you crossing the border Kibale takes approximately 6 hours. This is a scenic drive through the Kigezi highlands commonly known as the “Switzerland of Africa”. Overnight stay at Kyaninga Lodge / Ndali Lodge / Crater Lodge (up-market); Mountains of the Moon Hotel / Chimpanzee Guest House (Mid-range / budget)

Day 2

Chimps tracking & Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park

At 7.00 am local time assemble at Kanyanchu park headquarters for the briefing from the senior park ranger and at 8.00 am your guide will transfer you to the starting point for chimpanzee tracking. Normally the whole activity takes less than 4 hours. Later the guide will lead you to Chimps Nest Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon enjoy a nature walk in the Bigodi community Sanctuary anticipating a variety of forest birds and primates including different monkey species.In the evening transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park. It takes 2 hours to get to Queen Elizabeth national park. Overnight stay at Mweya Safari Lodge / Enganzi Lodge / Kyambura Game Lodge / Katara Lodge (luxury option); Ihamba Lodge / Bush lodge (mid-range)

Day 3

Game drive and boat cruise

Rise up at dawn for breakfast and an early morning game drive anticipating early risers including predators and other nocturnal mammals before they retreat to their hideouts. Expect mammals including hippos, buffaloes, hartebeests, leopard, lions, etc and a plethora of both endemic and migratory birds. Return to the lodge for an early lunch. At 2.00 pm transfer to the Kazinga Channel for a boat cruise. The Channel is a magnet to all wildlife in this park. It boasts of a big number of birds than any single destination in Africa. Retire to your lodge for relaxation. Day 4

Transfer to Volcanoes national park

Very early in the morning, enjoy your breakfast and transfer to Volcanoes national park. This day is a long drive but worth undertaking as you traverse the scenic Kigezi highlands – views of the Virunga peaks striding DR Congo and Rwanda is a big spectacle. Overnight stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (up-market) / Sabinyo / Virunga Lodges (Luxury)/ La Palme / Hotel Muhabura (budget)

Day 5

Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes national park

This day marks the major highlight of a 5 days Uganda Rwanda safari – gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes national park. In the morning converge at Kinigi park headquarters ready to embark on a gorilla trekking expedition. You will be allocated an hour with the gorillas in the wild. Return to the lodge for lunch before transferring to Kigali for a city tour including the Gisozi genocide memorial site. The guide will later transfer you to the airport for your scheduled flight.
