Batooro and Bakiga are the common tribes of people living near Kibale Forest National park. Kibale was gazetted in 1932 but was established into a park in 1993. In addition to chimpanzees, Kibale Forest shelters 12 other primates which include Vervet monkeys, Blue Monkeys, Red tailed monkeys, L’Hoest Monkeys, Olive baboons, Grey Cheeked Mangabeys, Uganda Red Colobus, Demidoff Galago, Pottos, Uganda Mangabeys, Black and White tailed monkeys.
The rain forest is also home to over 350 bird species which make it a paradise for bird watchers. Some of the notable birds to see in Kibale Forest include Slender Billed Weaver, African Pied Wagtail, Great Billed Turaco, Pin tailed whydah, African Pitta, African bee eater and Ruwenzori apalis among others.
