Chimpanzee trekking in this forest is accompanied by canopy walk rewarding you with great aerial views of the forest and other features in the neighbourhood. A boat cruise at Lake Kivu refreshes your mind from the previous day’s fatigue.

Trip Highlights

The 5 days also entail visiting one of the 10 habituated gorilla families in Volcanoes Park. The bamboo forest park shelters the highest number of mountain gorillas in the Virunga Massif shared between Mgahinga Gorilla Park in Uganda, Virunga Park in Congo and Volcanoes Park in Rwanda. The park is famous for her luxury gorilla safaris costing $1500 compared to the neighbouring gorilla parks in Uganda. Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National parks starts at Kinigi park headquarters where travelers are briefed on the rules and regulations of this adventure.

Day 1

Arrival at Kanombe airport Kigali

Upon arrival at Kigali airport, our safari guide will be waiting to receive you. He will be holding a placard bearing your name(s). He will transfer you to the hotel for relaxation. Overnight stay Mille Colline Hotel / The Manor Hotel.

Day 2

Transfer from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest

After breakfast, our safari guide will transfer you southwards to Nyungwe Forest with en route stop-over at Nyanza King’s palace and Mirambi Genocide memorial site. Overnight stay at the luxurious Nyungwe Safari Lodge / Budget Kinigi Guest House.

Day 3

Chimpanzee Tracking in Nyungwe Forest

Wake up very early in the morning for a cup of coffee and undertake a chimpanzee trekking expedition. Return to the lodge and later enjoy a canopy walk.  Overnight stay at the luxurious Nyungwe Safari Lodge / Budget Kinigi Guest House.

Transfer to Lake Kivu

After breakfast transfer via Cyangugu along the showers of Lake kivu arriving in the afternoon at the scenic beaches of Lake Kivu for relaxation. Overnight stay at the luxurious Kivu Serena Hotel / Paradis Malahide.

Day 4

Boat cruise on Lake Kivu

After breakfast enjoy a boat cruise to the coffee Island. Visit the coffee and banana plantations. You may have a chance to participate in local banana beer brewing. Return to the mainland for lunch at the hotel and in the afternoon transfer to Kinigi – Volcanoes national park. Overnight stay at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / Kinigi Guest House.

Day 5

Gorilla Trekking

Spend this day tracking the awesome mountain gorillas. In the evening , transfer to Kigali airport for your scheduled flight. End of the tour.
